Partizan eliminated AC Sparta Prague 3-1 on agg, winning Czechs 2-1 in Belgrade with first half brace from Ricardo Gomes.
Unfortunately, Partizan forward was sent-off on 65 after receiving second booking of the game.
We spoke to 30-year-old after the match.
“I believe my sending-off was a bad moment in my play. My opinion is that I didn`t deserve it but you cannot do anything about it now. What matters is that we won, qualified for the last 16 of the competition and that was our aim before Sparta tie. I`m pleased with this result”, said Ricardo.
Sparta is a good side with fine history but do you think we surprised them in certain way? You shocked them from the start, maybe they didn`t expect such great attacking play from Partizan?
“Yes, I believe it was very important we played well away to Sparta, away games are always hard. We know we can always play better at home, with great support from the stands, and I think we proved that. Still, I believe first leg was more important”.
It was a great atmosphere with around 14800 Partizan fans supporting their team.
“I`d like to thank them all! They really, really helped us. When they are there and when they support us, they are one more player in our team. Our fans give us strength and energy and such feeling creates good mood off the pitch too”.
Sasa Zdjelar and Milos Jojic assisted to your goals.
“Them too are very important for our team, they run, assist and score, Jojic maybe a bit more than Zdjelar, and it`s good for us to have such players. They represent what Partizan is fighting for, energy and quality”.
It looked like all Partizan players wanted to score tonight, Lazar Markovic and Queensy Menig were close to get onto the scoresheet too.
“First of all, we all play for Partizan and for our team to qualify to the next round. Of course, all players want to score a goal for themselves too and for our friends and families. But, it`s Partizan that matters, regardless who scores”.
We have Eternal Derby game on Sunday.
“It`s extremely important game with extra motivation added to it. We have to look at this game as a three-pointer. Of course, our opposition is a good team but I`m not thinking about them too much. I believe in our team, coaching staff and the way we play. If we keep going to play like this, we have nothing to worry about”.
It`s expected more than 30, 000 fans to be present at Crvena Zvezda ground on Sunday.
“That`s alright, we are ready for it, it will not surpise us. Stands will be packed but we have to keep clear minds, to be clever and fight as we always do, giving hundred percent. I believe God will bless us and that we will be pleased in the end”.
Thanks a lot. I know you are sad after being sent-off but you are part of Partizan history along with your teammates and coaching staff. Thanks a lot in the name of Partizan fans too.
“I`d like to thank everyone too, especially our fans on their support and this club for presenting me with the opportunity to be here”, said Ricardo Gomes.
