Miroslav Vulicevic, former Partizan right-back and skipper, now coach at Partizan youths, joined latest edition of Partizan Podcast to look back at his playing days, especially the only goal he scored for the club, away to Steaua Bucuresti – an important goal for Partizan and him personally.
“My prime objective was to defend but there was an odd assist there and that goal away to Steaua! In the reverse leg, fans recognized we were close to do something big, stands were packed and with their support we just couldn`t miss such opportunity, even after we failed to score from the spot”, said Vulicevic.
37-year-old will never forget the title won back in 2017 and the way this feat was achieved.
“Back then, we truly believed we can win the title regardless of the big point margin. Even to this day, the eldest Partizan fans claim this title was their favourite one ever. When we got close to it, boss Marko Nikolic gathered seven or eight more experienced players and asked us if everything is alright as everyone knew Leonardo and Djurdjevic didn`t quite get along off the pitch. Nikolic just told us not to allow to feel sorry later on, to feel bad as we were close to achieve something big, to talk about it for years how we were so close to win the title but failed to do it. Same goes for this season – we have to leave everything aside and qualify for the Champions League.
Fans are not aware how much they can help team pick up. Players are having such a hard time, we had those periods too, trust me – it`s hell out there for them now. But, support can pick them up and I`m sure they only need several wins to grow back and return to their true form”, said Vulicevic.
